Hailey weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces when she was born and now she weighs 8 pounds, 14 ounces! She is in the 50th percentile, which is average, unlike Noah who was always in the 5th percentile (which is below average)! I don't know how long she was when she was born, but she is now 21 inches long, which is also in the 50th percentile. And her head is now 15 inches, which is the 75th percentile. So, she's growing quite well! :)
Hailey and Noah got their first of three Hep B vaccines today. Hailey cried big time until I gave her a little "snack" and Noah whined a lot longer. Then we got Noah's arm xrayed again and will find out tomorrow how well it is healing. He will forever have a little bump on his collar bone apparently. I am really hoping we can get rid of this sling soon so he can go play! He did awesome getting his xray though. He's such a good boy. When in the doctor's office he kept trying to talk to the doc and nurses, telling them about Nascar and different things. Such a cutie.
One interesting thing is: Hailey has a hemangioma on her back, a red spot, which is benign, but doc said it will grow and grow and then recede over the next year. Not looking forward to that, but at least it is on her back and not somewhere more prevalent! Go here to learn more about hemangioma: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemangioma
In this last month Hailey has done quite a lot!
She has had quite a few baths and seems to really like them. She doesn't make a peep the entire time... only cries when she is getting toweled up. Perhaps she gets cold, or maybe she's just bummed its over!
Tummy time happens daily in short spurts, as she gets to crying pretty quickly. She can lift her head off the ground, but not enough to hold her head and turn it back and forth. She often rolls over onto her side and lifts her legs and bum off the ground a lot while on her tummy. Silly girl.
She has used a pacifier a bit here and there, but she doesn't love it so much. She will use it for brief periods. She would much rather pacify herself on my breast! Ugh. On occasion it has proven handy... hopefully she won't find her fingers or thumb interesting Ever!
Speaking of which, we got Noah a finger guard to wear when he is napping and overnight, it covers his two fingers and prevents him from getting any kind of suction in order to break the habit. It had great reviews on amazon, so we are feeling confident... it cost $75 so it better work! :)
Hailey enjoys the swing and sleeps better in her car seat than anywhere else now... she was sleeping in her bassinet okay, but not so much anymore. She spits up a ton, but its nothing to be concerned about, just normal baby stuff. She also has a heat rash, which I recognized because Noah had that when he was a baby too. It really is a bit less intense second time around, every little thing doesn't freak me out this time. I brought in a poop sample just to be sure the mucousyness was within the realm of normal, which it is, but I wasn't all worried about it like I was with Noah! Also, I liked the doc more today, she seemed in a much better mood or something! Maybe I don't need to change docs after all. :)
Hailey is focusing on faces better and is awake so much more now. She slept nearly all day on Tuesday, but has been awake a lot since then!
I started giving her massages at 3 weeks and she LOVES them!
We go for a daily walk, evening walks are especially helpful, in the moby, because her evenings are a fussy time now! She really likes going for walks/bouncing. I find during her fussy times, a slight jiggle (sometimes done by patting her bum bum) with swaying helps her calm down. Plus she really likes looking up at the sky and trees. "Shhh" helps too, but not as much. And as a last resort, the breast always calms her and puts her to sleep immediately.
We have gone on many outings: 2 outdoor summer concerts, farrel mcwhirter park and hike, mount rianier hike (2 miles), 4th of july parade and fireworks, library, many lunch time picnics and walks, snugglers class, shopping...
She gets LOTS of kisses and hugs from her big brother, who also helps me figure out why she might be crying. Noah always seems to be right, too! He really is such an amazing big brother. He loves her and is so sweet to her. He wants to help with all things and cant wait to be able to give her a bottle.
And about that sweet little Noah! He is so wonderful. He is content with spending our days at home, or with our little outings. I try to be sure to make time for he and I and even make it a point to tell Hailey that she has to be patient while I am with Noah at times, so I am not always telling Noah he's the one who always has to wait. He needs to know he is just as important as Hailey. He is doing so well with everything. There are moments, of course, when he can be quite a pill... but he is two after all! And I am finding that the use of a time out, immediately, works really well, as just talking to him doesn't quite do the trick anymore. He even gave himself a time out the other day when he was pestering Daddy! This past week he will tell me he loves me, unsolicited. How awesome is that?! So sweet. And, like I said, he really likes to help with Hailey and comfort her. He's just the best!
I am doing well. There are some night when I seem to get "enough" sleep, but also some nights when I just dont... the following morning of those nights are rough for me. I am quite grumpy without at leat 4 hours of sleep! I am starting to pump, though not getting much, but clearly Hailey is getting enough when she eats as she is growing so well!
Chris is doing a great job, still cooking dinner most of the time and doing a lot with Noah. He also hangs out with Hailey in the evenings, but often its during her fussy time, so that, I'm sure, can be a bit rough. It must be hard working all day, coming home to make dinner, and then comfort a crying baby... he's hanging in there though. :)
Here are some pics of Hailey on her one month birthday:
