Noah is starting to read. He brought home a 40 year old book from day care to read to us. Ellen has been using the same books That long to teach her kids over the years. Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE Ellen? I see Sam. He really has to sound out S a m and then he gets it! He is 4 years and 4 months old. SHe also did a math check up on him and he's got all the kindergarten entrance stuff, but couldn't write his numbers yet. A week later, he's writing his numbers!
Also we had his Pre-K parent conference at Creative Sprouts (he has been going twice a week since Sept) and he is amazing. They love him and want him to go on to kindergarten next year. Although, he would be going early since he will not be 5 by the Aug 31st (his bday is less than a month later). We have thought about this for the last 3 years actually, since he has always been advanced with his acadmics, and decided, after talking to many educators and considering our own ideas about it, that we want to wait to put him in. He could take a test (for $175) to see if he would qualify to go in early, but its not worth it. The one thing they said at his current Pre-K was that he is one of the smaller kids so it took him a little while to learn to standup for himself. Now, he is a great self-advocate and handles conflicts well (they are big on that :)). He can do all the things they asked him to do (a bunch of kindergarten readiness stuff)... with just a few errors over all. They told us he is doing quite well and they love him. :) So proud. :)
And, this is a really big deal... he doesnt suck his fingers anymore! Well.. we arent ready to through the party yet, but it seems like he may have really kicked the habit, according to his on report, he is not sucking his fingers at all.
Hailey is talking more and more clearly every day, it's amazing! She is starting to say Noah pretty clearly and goes between calling me Mama and Mommy. When I come home, she comes running over Yelling Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama. LOVE IT! She always says Thank You ("dankoo") without prompting. And will say please when she is asking for something ("peas"). She says "Here it is" when she finds something (I cant quite think of how it actually sounds though). She likes to find the moon in books and pictures. She loves books and can point out 99% of the things I ask her to find in those Baby's First 100 words books. She will sit with Noah on his bed and look at books for ever. She says Whoa when she falls or something goes slightly awry. She says Wow and Yeah. Her favorite number is 2. She is amazing at puzzles and loves them. She can do those inset puzzles without picture matching (the space is blank) easily. I have caught her hitting us a little bit, which was a big thing when Noah was her age (well, it was a big deal to me because he would only hit me!) She can imitate lines and loves putting pomp poms into little holes and other little fine motor things. She doesnt have the same amazing attention span Noah did at her age, but she will sit and work on something for a good amount of time. She does amazing with sharing - she heard Noah say something about being sad that he didnt have anymore of a particular sticker (they were working on construction site sticker scenes) and Hailey took hers off her picture and gave it to him, unsolicited. It was amazing and so sweet. She is an amazing climber and still has no fear. She will climb the rock wall thing at Juanita Beach Park with little to no help and go down the giant twisty slide by herself. She goes up and down stairs like a master, seriously amazing. She has a ton of teeth and is starting to eat broccoli and green beans again. yay!
:)
