Ellen told us today that Hailey is now starting to get into the dress up clothes at daycare and her first outfit of choice was a princess dress, Viking hat, and Ellen's shoes. :) Love it! For a while now she has been interested in my bracelets and loves putting them on and walking around. Why do I not have a picture of that?! Goodness, need to get on that! Also, I am thinking dress up clothes will be good for xmas! Oh boy, let the cuteness ensue!
On another note, Hailey threw up for the first time today, out of nowhere. No fever, seems fine now, but that happened. Hopefully that's all done! Noah never threw up, never, until a few months ago when he ate too much candy at a birthday party, but other than that... so this is new territory for us! Hailey also had croupe about a month ago and the same week she cut two new teeth. That was a terrible week.
But on a happy note she turned 17 months old this Monday and has really been figuring out the whole talking thing over the last few months. I still say her first word was tickle, but now she also says she says Go (I say "Ready Set" she says GO - sometimes she treis to say the whoel thing too), Boo, hoo hoo (owl), bubble (bubba), mamma and mommy, dada, grandma (mama), hailey (yahyee), noah (wawa)... these are rough approximations!... please (ees), more... we ask her "Hailey, say ___" and she treid pretty much everything we through at her. Mostly its unrecognizable, but sometimes she comes out with something and we swear it was Noah who said it because it is so clear. Sounded like she said Oliver yesterday, her baby friend at daycare.
Ellen also reports Hailey had a tantrum a few weeks ago. Uhoh. Noah never really had tantrums so to speak. I have seen her get a little more opinionated, but no tantrums yet! Also, Hailey is climbing all over the place, with no fear. Chris caught her about to get up on the dining room table, I have caught her in some precarious positions... she is more of a climber than Noah was, too! Seems like we are going to have to baby proof more than with Noah. She is not responding to the simple "no touch" and then remembering the rule... she does have some defiance in her (which may be learned from her older brother who is awesome, but does not always listen. Well, he is 4 after all :)!
Noah has been healthy, a runny nose here and there, but otherwise doing well. He has been enjoying pre-k a lot and his teacher told me he is very "studious" at times. We watched the last race last weekend and cried when Jimmie Johnson won... not entirely sure why, but it seemed he was confused that Jimmie was the champion even though he didn't win the race. It's slightly humorous that he cried considering how much of a giant JJ fan my mom is. He said the cutest thing the other day, though. I kissed him on the forehead and he wiped it off, as he always does. I told him "That's okay, I remember I would wipe my mommy's kisses off when I was little too, cause they were always a little wet." And he said "But Mommy, it's okay if a wipe it off because then the magic just goes into my hand and then all through my body!". He is such a sweetheart!!
And here's a snapshot of our life one evening this week, all written with a smile, because I love every minute of it. None of this is complaining, just observation of a night with kids (a night that was supposed to be an hour long, not 4 hours!): :)
"jc penney portrait studio on a wed afternoon. sounds like a fine idea. get some xmas card pics and be on our way home in an hour. no problem. HA! over 2 hours later we leave with not so great pics only partially ordered, leaving behind a huge number of people STILL waiting their turn (all with kids), and with 2 wackadoodle kids who just spent the last 2 hours either running around... the luggage dept next door despite your best intentions, or hanging off your leg, or requiring being held and turned upside down, or Not smiling at the camera. and now it's too late to go home and make dinner, so you end up eating out.
eating out at the cheesecake factory, a chance to relax and enjoy some yummy food while being served on. sounds like a fine idea ... pre-kids! now try eating with a very demanding 17 mo old who wants everything until you give it to her, cleaning up a cup of spilled milk because your 4 year old just cannot sit still (despite his best intentions), and manage to make eye contact for one brief moment with your husband because that was the only chance you had between everything else. we managed to wolf down some (actually really good) food and even avoided a 20 minute #2 bathroom break... maybe that's TMI, but if you've read this far I bet you understand. and then we left with a very loud child yelling her face off, for no good reason, just to be loud. yup.
there are moments you want to stand up and yell "everyone, just stop, this is too crazy -ahahahah!" and then sit alone and drink a glass of wine... but instead, after a few deep breaths you say, "let's sing the Wheels on the Bus in a British accent" ... and then hand the little one another piece of bread because she shakes her head "no". HA!
I wouldn't change a thing, though! well, except maybe a better photographer..."
